Deputy Minister Mary Akopyan met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Ukraine Volodymyr Karapetyan
The prospects of bilateral cooperation in matters falling within the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine were discussed.
Mary Akopian outlined the main tasks and challenges currently facing the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the context of large-scale military aggression against Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of rallying international support and assistance in the investigations of war crimes committed against Ukrainian citizens, involving foreign specialists in humanitarian placement the destruction of areas contaminated with explosive objects freed from temporary occupation.
Separately, it was discussed the importance of effectively countering false Russian propaganda, which continues to speculate with narratives of discord and hatred, including inciting international enmity.
In this context, it was emphasized the active civic position of the Armenians of Ukraine, in particular the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, their significant contribution to support and strengthening the defense capability of the Ukrainian state during the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The Deputy Minister separately noted the importance of solidarity actions with Ukraine held in Yerevan.
Mary Akopyan assured the Ambassador that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is ready to share with Armenian partners experience in the field of implementation of reforms in the civil security sector in view of the large-scale changes that have begun in Armenia concerning, in particular, the police department.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is open to dialogue,” said Mary Akopian, “and is ready to share the experience of the stage of changes already passed by Ukrainians, developments and successful implementation of effective projects.”
The strategy of the reform, initiated in Armenia under the mandate of Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan, includes the establishment of an operational management center in the country, the transformation of the police forces, as well as the transformation into the criminal and community police. Armenia's assistance in these processes is provided by international partners - the United States, the EU, the OSCE, the World Bank.
