Classes in the UK for Ukrainian police officers from 12 frontline cities were conducted by Interpol representatives with 30 years of experience, who worked directly at the crash sites of the Malaysian “Boeing”, the excavation of mass graves in Bosnia. Foreign specialists have been transferring practical skills to law enforcement officers of many countries for a long time.

During five days, Mykhailo Tkachenko, a forensic specialist of the police department No. 2 of the Zaporizhzhya district police department, took part in training in Moreton-in-Marsha.

Under the guidance of foreign colleagues on specific examples of terrorist acts and extraordinary events, Ukrainian police officers learned about the criteria by which the deceased should be identified, mastered the procedure for fixing and removing the evidence base at the sites of disasters, mass burials, etc. They studied the procedure for collecting and comparing data on missing people, as well as post-mortem examination of corpses and human remains.

The participants of the training worked on the theoretical knowledge obtained at specially equipped locations of the police college — in the morgue, cemetery, places of heaps. The conditions are as close as possible to the real ones.

At the end, the organizers arranged for guests from Ukraine an inspection tour to the University of Oxford.

The final stage of the course was an exam on the effective application of acquired skills.

The knowledge gained will improve the results of war crimes investigations, and international experience will help Ukrainian forensic specialists to identify the bodies of the dead at the sites of shelling and mass graves.
