Dead Russians and their identification: Leonid Timchenko informed about the results of the work of the project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Poter.net”
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko told journalists about the results of the work of the project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Poter.net”. It was created to counter narratives of Russian propaganda and disinformation.
“Poter.net” combines data from all open sources to establish an objective picture of losses of the Russian army, military LPR, DPR, collaborators, etc., who participated in the armed aggression against Ukraine.
According to the Deputy Minister, the project was launched in 2022: “At the beginning of the large-scale invasion, we realized that there is a large amount of information about the dead Russians. We began to systematize it. After in September 2022, the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the figures of losses of their military, which amounted to about 5 thousand, we decided to create such a resource. After all, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the losses of Russians during the same period were at least 10 times more.”
Currently, in the database of “Poter.net” 72,012 confirmed facts about the losses of the Russian army and other military formations. Students and cadets of the National Academy of Internal Affairs, Odessa State University of Internal Affairs and Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs are engaged in the search for information, its processing, analysis and publication on the site.
“The National Academy of Internal Affairs has been involved in the Ministry of Internal Affairs project since March 1, 2023. During this time, we have collected information on more than 40 thousand killed enemies. This work is a source of accessible information about real losses - an important element of the information war,” said the head of the analytical department of the Center for Criminal Analysis, head of the working group Dmitry Ovsyanjuk.
The main thing in the Potter.net project, according to Leonid Timchenko, is to convey true information to the Russians.
“When collecting information from social networks and open sources, it is necessary to check it qualitatively. Information gets to our database and the specified portal only after verification by moderators. There must be at least two sources for each fact. We record the information received from open sources - we take screenshots. As practice shows, later such information from open sources may disappear. The Russian authorities today even prohibit the publication of obituaries. This is a confirmation that the Russian authorities artificially distort information about the real losses of its military,” the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed.
On the resource “Poter.net” not only statistics of losses among Russians are published, but also data on the number of men/women, statistics of losses by military rank, search by name or surname is implemented.
The site is available to everyone.
