Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the police received more than 9.7 thousand reports of the disappearance of children
This was announced today, February 2, by the Deputy Head of the Department of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police Yaroslav Shanko at a briefing at the Military Media Center. According to him, 9,764 minors were declared wanted. Currently, 347 children are wanted, of which 323 have disappeared in the area of hostilities. At the same time, it is not possible to establish the exact number of missing children in the temporarily occupied and territories where active fighting is taking place.
Yaroslav Shanko noted that in the conditions of martial law, the issue of safety and protection of children has become of particular relevance. Despite numerous calls from international institutions to strictly observe the norms of international law, the number of crimes committed by the Russian Federation against children of Ukraine is increasing every day.
“To date, the Russian military has killed 459 children and wounded 918. In particular, 176 children died as a result of hostilities in Donetsk region, 80 in Kharkiv region, 58 in Kyiv region, 25 in Kherson region, and 23 children in Chernihiv region. At the same time, it is impossible to name the number of children who suffered psychological trauma as a result of the war, lost relatives and loved ones,” the policeman said. At the same time, it is not possible to establish the exact number of casualties in areas of active fighting and in the temporarily occupied territories.
Police also evacuate children from dangerous areas. In order to maximize the safety of children during the evacuation from the territory of fighting in Donetsk region, the crews of the “White Angel” police were equipped with special protective vests and protective helmets for children.
“This week, evacuation crews received an additional 500 child protection kits and an armored vehicle that will be used to evacuate children from frontline areas. We are trying to spread this practice to ensure the safety of children in other regions where fighting is taking place, and in general wherever it is necessary,” said the deputy head of the department.
For the prompt search of children, the department introduced the chatbot “Search for children” @poshukditei_bot in the Telegram messenger, the main task of which is to simplify the procedure for submitting information about a missing child and/or a missing contact to the police.
“Measures are also being taken to improve the search system for children. In particular, users of mobile operators are sent special notifications about the search for children. Also, online services of taxi services and carriers are involved in the search for children, as well as information is posted on the ticket sales website,” said the deputy head of the Department of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police.
