Border guard Dmitry Kushnir was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine by the Decree of the President of Ukraine and awarded the Order “Golden Star”.
The staff sergeant met the beginning of a full-scale war in the border service department in the city of Schastya in the Luhansk region. According to Dmitry Kushnir, there was targeted fire along the main roads. Then it was possible to capture five occupiers, who were later exchanged for Ukrainian servicemen.
In early March, Dmitry Kushnir took part in the defense of a section of the front near the city of Kreminna. The main task was to prevent the enemy from capturing the railway track.
Not far from the Ukrainian positions was a complex of buildings for the elderly. There were about 60 civilians. However, about 120 Russians, several units of heavy armored vehicles and three Ural trucks entered the territory of this complex. From there, the enemy conducted a targeted attack, realizing that the Ukrainian military did not open fire on the location of civilians.
Having developed a detailed plan, a consolidated unit, which included the border guard Dmitry Kushnir, on the morning of March 4, the defenders began to storm the enemy positions. Then it was possible to neutralize absolutely all enemy equipment, there were many killed and wounded by the Russians.
This was not the last operation of Dmitry Kushnir and his unit in this war, and there were bound to be other victories on the battlefield ahead.
