Seven streets of Kharkiv renamed in honor of the deceased heroes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
In Kharkiv, streets appeared in honor of the fallen defenders, Ukrainian public and military figures, patrons and artists, as well as states and partner cities of Kharkiv. In particular, seven streets were renamed in honor of the deceased heroes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The order on the renaming was signed on April 29 by the mayor Igor Terekhov.
Five streets now bear the names of fallen National Guardsmen:
The former Matrosov Street will now be called Alexander Orlov Street. The commander of a sniper group of a separate special purpose detachment “Omega” died on March 7, 2022 in a battle on the outskirts of North Saltovka.
Kibalchycha Street now has the name of Ilya Kovalya. A lieutenant of the “Rubezh” brigade of the National Guard died on April 7, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the city of Rubezhnoe, Luhansk region.
In honor of Dmitry Kochetkov, the street was renamed Kui Caesar. The defender of Azovstal gave his life on April 19, 2022, during the defense of Mariupol from the Russian invaders.
Fedorenko Street was renamed in honor of Sergey Barsukov. The commander of the special purpose reconnaissance company of the Spartan brigade died on June 28, 2022 in combat near the village of Dementiivka, Kharkiv region.
Turgenivska Street was renamed Anton Derbilov Street. On April 06, 2023, a fighter of the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade of the NGU during mortar shelling received a shrapnel wound in the head, which was incompatible with life.
Two more streets were renamed in honor of the dead rescuer and border guard:
In honor of Alexander Podolsky, the street was renamed Amursk. The life of the rescuer was interrupted on March 17, 2022, during the liquidation of the consequences of enemy shelling on the Barabashova market.
In honor of the border guard Igor Ostapovich, the alley was renamed Balakirev. The fighter died on March 9, 2022 during the defense of Luhansk region.
In total, 367 place names were renamed in Kharkiv according to the order of the Kharkiv Mayor as of April 26, 2024.
