Volodymyr Zhudr, a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine who died tonight as a result of an accident at a checkpoint in Kiev, was 49 years old. Vladimir had a son and an elderly mother.

In 2014-2015, Vladimir defended Ukraine as part of volunteer units. With the beginning of full-scale armed aggression, he was mobilized to the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine, participated in hostilities in eastern Ukraine, and after his return performed tasks related to ensuring the legal regime of martial law and security during the curfew, in particular at checkpoints in the capital.

The tragedy is currently being investigated by law enforcement. The investigators prepared a petition to the court to keep the suspect in custody and appointed a number of necessary examinations.

Recall that today, July 25, at 00:05 the 23-year-old driver of the Volkswagen car on Beresteysky Avenue at speed hit two fighters of the National Guard of Ukraine, after ramming two more cars.

As a result of a car accident, a 49-year-old soldier died, and his comrade was hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. Another victim was assisted at the scene.

The driver is currently detained. The investigators, in agreement with the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, informed the detainee about the suspicion of committing the crime provided for in Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of the rules of road safety or operation of vehicles by persons driving vehicles. He faces imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.

We express our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased Vladimir Zhudr.
