Responsibility of Russian invaders for crimes in Ukraine is inevitable
The recording and investigation of war crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, as well as international support in this direction, together with the Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky, were discussed today, August 13, on the air of the British news channel Sky News.
During the large-scale war, the National Police of Ukraine initiated more than 26.8 thousand criminal proceedings on the facts of crimes committed by Russian servicemen and their accomplices.
The main task of police officers is the correct qualification of crimes in accordance with the norms of international criminal and humanitarian law, the speed and quality of recording, documenting and collecting evidence, which will later become the basis for Ukraine's appeal to international courts.
“We have already mentioned the crimes in Bucha, Gostomel, but I am convinced that even more is waiting for us to be fixed in Mariupol, Volnovakha, Severodonetsk, those cities that today are under occupation and will be de-occupied later,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
The more Ukrainians push back the Russians, the more the truth about the war crimes of the occupiers will be revealed.
“These are the crimes committed by the political leadership of the Russian Federation, directing troops and allowing them to commit rape, murder of children and murder of civilians in general,” the minister explained.
It is worth noting that in the investigation of war crimes of the Russian Federation, all law enforcement agencies of Ukraine work according to a common algorithm. Significant assistance in this matter is provided by international partners who provide servers, technical means, video and photo recording, devices for remote transmission of information, etc.
As a result of joint agreements, the United States provided special mobile equipment with which a DNA profile is formed, which facilitates the identification of the dead. France sent a mobile laboratory and genetic experts. We also received professional support from joint groups from Lithuania and Slovakia in the de-occupied territories. Germany has provided technical assistance for the needs of our expert service for a total amount of about 1.25 million euros, which is a significant contribution to the investigation of this kind of crimes.
Negotiations with international partners are ongoing.
