From the liberation of Kharkiv region to the defense of Bakhmut and Soledar — the path of the Spartan assault brigade
The third operational brigade was created by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of 11.06.2014 No. 554 to participate in the protection of public order and the protection of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. In the period from June to October 2014, staffing took place.
From the first days of formation, the brigade began to perform service and combat tasks, participated in the anti-terrorist operation and the operation of the United Forces. Guards of the 3rd operational brigade served at checkpoints and strongholds of units, provided artillery support to infantry units, participated in direct combat clashes with the enemy. The main hot spots for the brigade were Debaltseve, Krymske, Mariupol and Popasna.
On August 24, 2015, during the celebrations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine in the capital Khreshchatyk, the brigade was awarded the Battle Flag. On October 14, 2020, for combat merits, courage, exemplary performance of assigned tasks and high professionalism, the brigade was awarded the honorable mention naming the “name of Colonel Petro Bolbochan” in honor of the talented military commander of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic.
Until February 2022, the personnel of the military unit continued to perform service and combat tasks in the area of the Joint Forces operation.
3 the beginning of the full-scale military operation of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the personnel of the brigade from the first minutes of the invasion gave a worthy rebuff to the enemy's attempts to break into the city of Kharkov. The fighters of the mortar, howitzer artillery and anti-aircraft missile artillery divisions of the brigade were distinguished by courageous and decisive actions in the defense of the city. On February 24, 2022, in the first hours of the invasion, three calculations of the D-30 gun by the personnel of the howitzer artillery the artillery division destroyed 4 enemy tanks on the bypass road near Kharkov. On the same day, the armored car crew of the brigade, together with the units of the TRO, took their first battle on the outskirts of the city. Kharkov — in Pyatikhatky, where the advance of the column of Russian troops was stopped. On March 6, by the calculation of PZRK “Perun”, a SU-25 subsonic assault rifle was shot down, which carried out shelling of Kharkov.
For courage and selfless actions, shown during the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, dozens of servicemen of the brigade were awarded state awards and the brigade itself was awarded the honorary award “For Courage and Courage by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 537/2022 dated July 27, 2022 “.
Guards of military unit 3017 took part in the liberation and clearing of Malaya Rogan, Cirkunov and Kutuzivka village near Kharkiv. Since September 6, 2022, the brigade participated in the counteroffensive operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in Slobozhanshchyna. In winter, the guards took part in battles for the cities of Bakhmut and Soledar. During the fighting, units of the brigade eliminated a significant number of Russian servicemen and their military equipment.
As part of the recruitment campaign of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Office of the President of Ukraine, the brigade joined the “Guard of Offensive” and received the name “Spartan”. Currently, the guards of the 3rd Brigade of Operational Assignment named after Colonel Petro Bolbočan perform official duties both in the city itself and on the line of battle with the occupiers. The soldiers of the brigade adequately resist the Rascist invasion. Each of them is ready to defend their native land and drive out the hated occupier from it.
