Explosion in the Shevchenko court: the main thing from the briefing of the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko
According to the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at 17:20 a report of an explosion was received from residents of a neighboring house located near the Shevchenko Court of the city of Kiev. After that, operational services — the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, special forces were raised and sent to the scene.
Igor Klymenko noted that the rapid evacuation of all citizens who were in court was immediately carried out.
The Minister of Internal Affairs said that the man who carried out the subversion in the Shevchenko court was Igor Humenyuk, whose case was being considered at that moment:
“According to preliminary information, Mr. Igor Humeniuk is suspected of committing a serious crime in 2015, as a result of which four servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine were killed. Today he was brought to another court session, after its completion, Humenyuk first closed himself in the toilet, then opened the door and threw an unknown explosive device at the caravan. Previously, there were two such explosions.”
Igor Klymenko said that after that the man tried to leave the courtroom. However, the workers of the convoy stopped him with a shot in the air, after which the attacker barricaded himself in a separate room.
“After that, employees of the Rapid Action Corps of Kyiv tried to deblock him from this room. Of course, before that there were attempts to negotiate, but the man did not go to any contact. After the doors to this room were unlocked, he threw another explosive object at police officers. Their lives were saved by shields that were in front of them,” said Igor Klymenko.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs informed that two policemen were wounded in the lower limbs. Currently, they are in medical institutions, and their lives are not threatened.
“Humenyuk himself died from an explosive device. Now, explosives are working on site, in order to be sure that there are no explosive objects or devices at the crime scene. Criminal proceedings have already been opened — these are encroachments on the lives of law enforcement officers and encroachment on escape from court custody,” the Minister said.
