The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has developed and is already implementing the concept of a safe environment. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko during his report at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine held in Lviv.

According to the Minister, the security of public spaces requires a complete restructuring of approaches. Railway and car stations, airports, shopping centers, etc. should be under close attention.

“So it is envisaged to install metal detectors and baggage scanners in public places, to place additional barriers in the territory of stations, technical means of alerting the police,” he said.

At the same time, he emphasized that the main thing is to have intelligent video surveillance systems with the ability to recognize faces, license plates, type, model, brand, vehicles.

The implementation of such systems requires the cooperation of local authorities, territorial communities and the police.

“Everyone should understand that by installing CCTV cameras, you do not get equipment, but a sense of security, increased detection of crimes, improved response,” Igor Klymenko said.

Regarding the improvement of the response, the Minister points out, the key factor should be Security Centers, in which police, rescue and medical forces are accumulated under one roof.

“There are already 43 of them in Ukraine. We plan to open more than 330 more,” Ihor Klymenko summed up, adding that it would be good if communities were more actively involved in this process.

At the same time, the Minister reminded that the Ministry of Internal Affairs in parallel continues to increase the units of local and voluntary fire protection.

“There are already more than 1,200 of them. For its part, the government has done everything possible to simplify the procedure for transferring property from the SNS to the community. 160 units of equipment have already been transferred and about 1200 volunteer firefighters have been trained,” the Minister said.
