Fire danger period continues in Ukraine: more than 60 hectares of ecosystem burned in the past 24 hours alone

Over 26 hectares burned in open areas in the Mykolaiv region during the day. On August 17, 19 fires of dry grass, garbage, shrubs and coniferous litter were registered. It burned in every area of the region on a total area of more than 26 hectares.

In Odessa region, rescuers went 16 times to burn dry vegetation on a total area of more than 11 hectares.

The soldiers of the State Emergency Service of Vinnytsia region went 8 times last day to eliminate fires caused by the burning of dry grass, crop residues and garbage. In particular, such cases occurred in Vinnytsia, Gaysinsky, Khmilnytsky, Tulchynsky districts of the region and in Vinnytsia, where about 7 hectares of dry vegetation were destroyed by fire.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, firefighters eliminated 17 fires in ecosystems during the day. Due to the heat, especially in windy weather, the threat of ignition increases significantly.As a result of these fires, more than 12 hectares of terrestrial ecosystems have been destroyed.

Last day, firefighters of the Zhytomyr region eliminated 8 fires in ecosystems, during the fire covered more than 5.5 hectares of dry vegetation. In particular, the grass was taken up in the village. stored near it. The fire was eliminated in seven hours. The fire managed to destroy the roof on an area of 500 sq. m and 9 tons of straw.

In the Vyshhorod district of the Kiev region, peat bogs are burning. The fire covered almost an acre of field. Rescuers have been trying to extinguish the peat for two days. And this is the second outbreak of fire in the mouth of the Zdvizh River in the last week.

Every day, rescuers extinguish up to a hundred such fires. In 2023, almost 13 thousand fires in ecosystems and open areas have already been eliminated. More than 10 thousand hectares of burned land, thousands of wild animals burned alive, colossal material damage, significant human and technical resources involved... Such are the consequences of senseless burning dry since the beginning of the year!
In 90% of cases, the cause of fires in ecosystems is human negligence. Take care of our native land, our unique flora and fauna! Do not burn dry grass!

And if you are in the center of a fire in an open area:

- do not panic or run away from the flames, but walk away from the fire against the wind, covering your head and face with clothes;

- if it is impossible to escape from the fire, then go out into the open area or lawn, go into the pond or cover yourself with wet clothes and breathe the air low above the ground — the air here is less smoky;

- when extinguishing a fire, do not go far from roads and byways, do not lose sight of other participants in extinguishing the fire, keep in touch with them by voice;

- be careful in places of burning tall trees, they can collapse and injure you;

- be especially careful in places of peat fires, keep in mind that deep crevices can be created there, so move, if possible, checking the depth of the burned layer with a stick;

- after leaving the fire department, notify the local administration and the State Emergency Service about the fire.
