In Ukraine, the court issued the first sentence for the deportation of civilians from the occupied peninsula of Crimea
The capital's court handed down the sentence to the “head of the Armenian City Court”, which after the annexation of the peninsula moved to the side of the occupiers. The defendant of the criminal case made illegal decisions on the expulsion from the peninsula of Crimeans who expressed a pro-Ukrainian position. The court has now sentenced her to 10 years in prison in absentia. It is worth noting that this is the first sentence in Ukraine for the deportation of civilians from the occupied peninsula.
During the investigation, it was established that the convict after the occupation of the peninsula transferred to the service of illegally created judicial bodies and voluntarily occupied the position of “head of the Armyan City Court of the Republic of Crimea”.
“Judge” reliably knew that since 2014 the inhabitants of Crimea have the status of persons protected by international humanitarian law. Contrary to this, it adopted a decision on the illegal expulsion of Ukrainian citizens from the territory of the temporarily occupied peninsula, which was later implemented. Therefore, Crimeans who expressed a pro-Ukrainian position were deported.
The illegal decision was allegedly motivated by the lack of permits and non-compliance with the “rules of stay in the territory of the Russian Federation”. However, no additional permits of the occupation administration of the Russian Federation in Crimea for the residence of citizens of Ukraine on the temporarily occupied territory of the peninsula under national law are not provided.
Investigators of the investigative department of the GUNP in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city. Sevastopol collected irrefutable evidence of the guilt of the so-called “judge of the Armyan City Court of the Republic of Crimea” and the indictment for the criminal activity of the defendant was sent to the Darnytsky District Court of the city.
