This was emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during the inclusion on the air of the “United News” tele-marathon on the launch of the Unified System of Video Monitoring of the State of Public Security.

According to Leonid Tymchenko, video surveillance cameras, which today are on highways of state importance, in places of large crowds of people, as well as those cameras that are connected to the municipal systems “Safe City” will be connected to this platform. In addition, in the future, cameras that will be located in educational institutions will be integrated into the Unified Video Monitoring System.

“If we talk about highways of state importance, then, as you know, cameras are used today to record speeding, driving at red lights and on public transport lanes. The number of such cameras will increase depending on the situation on the roads and in those places where the concentration of traffic accidents is high,” the Deputy Minister said.

As Leonid Tymchenko noted, as of today, 2 CCTV cameras have been installed in Kyiv per 1,000 population. For comparison, in Rome, this figure is 4 cameras per 1,000 population, in Istanbul - 7, in Berlin - 8, in London - 13.

“That is, the number of CCTV cameras in the city of Kiev is insufficient,” he noted. “The process of launching the Unified Video Monitoring System was supposed to be completed by the end of 2022, but the security situation, in particular a full-scale invasion, suspended these processes.”

Currently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on increasing the cameras for self-fixing violations of traffic rules, which are installed on highways of state importance. As of today, 244 auto-fixation complexes are in operation, and by the end of March it is planned to increase the number of cameras on highways by 50 units.

Also, the Deputy Minister informed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is considering a draft law on the Unified System of Video Monitoring of the State of Public Security, which will determine the procedure for installing video surveillance cameras, their administration, and will also provide for responsibility for the dissemination of information from video surveillance cameras.

Recall that to the Unified System of Video Monitoring of the State of Public Security, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is planned to connect 50 thousand video surveillance cameras throughout the country.
