In Ukraine, the number of fires that occurred due to improper use of heating appliances continues to grow - Alyona Matveeva
In two months, 3 thousand fires occurred, most of them due to neglect of safety rules when using alternative heating devices. The spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Alyona Matveeva stated about this on the air of the UA tele-marathon.
“In two months, there were about 3,000 fires. Of these, only 200 fires were caused by a malfunction, and 17 were caused by careless handling of fire by children. All others are improper use of heating appliances or improper handling of fire. In October, 82 people died as a result of fires, and in November already 182 people. 368 people were injured, 90 of them children. 20 people died due to carbon monoxide,” said Alyona Matveeva.
So the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs once again recalled the rules for using generators. They can be installed outdoors, at a distance of at least 6 meters from windows and doors. If installed near the load-bearing wall, then the distance should be at least 1 meter.
Before using the generator, you must check the wiring. It must be covered if moisture gets on it, the current can hit not only the generator itself, but also the devices connected to it.
Do not mix the types of fuel, oil, which refuels the generator. If the generator needs to be refueled, then you need to wait for it to cool completely. Since, as soon as fuel enters the generator, the parts of which are still hot, it instantly ignites. So there must be a fire extinguisher.
It is worth remembering that the generator can not work 24 hours a day. For the time specified in the instructions, it must be turned off.
In addition, Alyona Matveeva added that gas cylinders can not be installed independently. They must be installed by a professional.
The spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also recalled what needs to be done in case of prolonged absence of light and heat:
“If there is no light for a day or more, we must turn off all electrical appliances, collect water and food for 7 days, stock up on blankets and collect an alarm suitcase. When there is no light and heat for more than two days, it is necessary to additionally insulate the front door, all family members should be in the same room. It is necessary to wear a lot of clothes, it must be multi-layered. Drinking alcoholic beverages is not worth it. It is also necessary to find out where the nearest heating point is, where you can collect water and where there is a shop nearby that works for turning off the light,” she stressed.
