In Ukraine, they plan to create a Center for the Organization of Humanitarian Demining, — Bohdan Drapyaty
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Bohdan Drapyaty on the air of the nationwide tele-marathon “Yedini Novosti”.
“Today, about 30% of the territory of our state is contaminated with explosive objects, which is 174 thousand square kilometers. Therefore, the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine — the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the National Police, the National Guard — are involved in the process of demining our territories,” the Deputy Minister noted.
He informed that the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carry out two types of demining: operational and humanitarian. The operation is carried out by the National Police together with the State Emergency Service after the de-occupation of territories where it is necessary to restore the life of the relevant region as soon as possible, the activities of critical infrastructure, transport and ecosystem facilities. Humanitarian demining is planned. The State Emergency Service, the National Police, the Ministry of Defense, as well as private non-governmental operators for humanitarian demining are involved in this process.
Bohdan Drapyaty also spoke about the plans to establish the Center for the Organization of Humanitarian Demining: “This process [of demining] is extremely long and complex.
Currently, an interdepartmental working group is functioning, headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, where the decision was made on the need to establish a Center for the Organization of Humanitarian Demining. He will coordinate all the authorities for the effective implementation of the demining of our territory.”
When asked by the journalist about the time it will take to demine Ukrainian territories, Drapyaty replied that this will be known only after the victory of Ukraine and the restoration of borders until 1991.
“We know our strengths, capabilities and our needs. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the units of the State Emergency Service and the National Guard of Ukraine have mined 1 thousand square kilometers, defused and neutralized about 520 thousand explosive objects... We are grateful to our international partners who are already providing appropriate technical assistance for humanitarian demining”, - emphasized Deputy Minister.
