More than 60 thousand shelters for civilians are accounted for in Ukraine — Volodymyr Demchuk
On the territory controlled by Ukraine, there are currently 60 thousand 458 objects of protective structures of civil protection, which is three times more than the number of shelters at the beginning of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation. This was discussed during the meeting of the Coordination Headquarters on bringing the objects of the fund of civil defense protective structures as those of strategic importance for ensuring the protection of the population, in proper condition.
The event was attended by the Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin, Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries — Head of the Coordination Headquarters Timur Tkachenko, Acting Deputy Minister of Strategic Industries. Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchuk, Counsellor - Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Barrierlessness Tatiana Lomakin.
“During the time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the number of objects of the defense construction fund has almost tripled and today their number on the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine is 60 thousand. 458. I would like to remind you that at the beginning of 2022, 20.5 thousand such objects were accounted for,” Volodymyr Demchuk, Acting Head of the State Emergency Service, informed.
He also said that the specialists of the State Emergency Service, together with the National Police and representatives of local authorities, conduct a quarterly survey of all objects of the fund of protective structures. Thus, Vladimir Demchuk noted that, according to the results of the survey in the IV quarter of 2023, 84% of these more than 60.4 thousand objects are ready.
The meeting of the headquarters also heard a report on the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated June 23, 2023 on the results of operational surveys of objects of the fund of protective structures of civil protection and resolution of problematic issues regarding the shelter of the population”, which was put into effect by the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated June 26, 2023 No. 353/2023.
In addition, there was a discussion of problematic issues related to the functioning of the shelter system for the population, and proposals for the development of the fund of protective structures of civil protection were voiced.
