National Museum “Chernobyl” announces art competition
The National Museum “Chernobyl” announces an art competition for the development of general creative and spatial concepts and exposition design.
In general, the rules of the competition provide:
- Registration of participants of the competition is from 1 to 31 May 2024.
- Submission of competitive projects — by July 31, 2024.
- Submission in paper form of tender proposals for the cost of the tender project and the deadlines for the performance of works — until July 31, 2024.
- Consideration of tender projects and preliminary selection of projects — until August 23, 2024.
- Posting on the official website of the National Museum “Chernobyl” information about competitive projects accepted for participation in the second stage - until August 30, 2024.
- Presentation of competitive projects by participants — until September 20, 2024.
- Summing up the results of the competition and announcing the results of the competition on the official website of the National Museum “Chernobyl” — until September 30, 2024.
- The deadline for implementation of the tender project is until December 31, 2025.
Important!
The competition project should take into account the fact that the museum is located in a building that is an architectural monument of local importance.
Also, for the organization of the museum part, take into account the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Museums and Museum Affairs” and state building codes regarding the arrangement of museums.
The project should ensure full accessibility of the exposition, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities, including visual impairment, hearing impairment, autism spectrum disorders and ensure the wide use of new media and digital technologies in the exposition (projection displays, touch screens, VR/AR technologies, video wall, etc.).
What the competition project should contain:
1) in the package of the presented concept (the specified number of slides is recommended):
- description of the creative concept of the Museum with color 3D visualization (2-3 slides);
- description of the general spatial concept of the Museum, including functional and conceptual solutions and zoning principles with color 3D visualization (4-6 slides);
- zoning schemes of each floor of the Museum with a plan for the movement of visitors (3 slides);
- general view (color 3D visualization) and description of the concept of building the exposition (4-5 slides);
- general scheme of exposure zoning (3 slides);
- key ideas, key elements and construction logic for each thematic zone of the exposition (6-8 slides);
- zoning scheme, sketch project and color 3D visualization of the arrangement of the exhibition area, including lighting and audiovisual series based on the storyline (6-8 slides);
- description of the principles of style and basic elements of brand identity (3-4 slides);
- explanatory note on the adaptation of the architectural monument (2-3 slides);
2) functional solutions and suggestions for the arrangement of the Museum (the specified number of slides is recommended):
- interactive museum laboratory (2-3 slides);
- coworking area (1-2 slides);
- welcome service area (2-3 slides);
- souvenir shop (2 slides);
- libraries (2 slides);
- exhibition hall (1-2 slides);
3) a price offer for the development of schematic and detailed design and interior of all zones of the exhibition part;
4) proposal on the terms of development of schematic and detailed design (calendar plan) and interior of all zones of the exposition part.
Please note that participation in the competition is open and free!
The competition is conducted according to the uniform rules and conditions stipulated by the Regulations, which are mandatory for all participants in the competition.
The main condition of the competition is the development of general creative and spatial concepts of the National Museum “Chernobyl”, the optimal design and architectural and artistic solution of the museum exposition.
Legal entities (architectural and design studios, advertising and communication agencies, etc.), public organizations, and individual entrepreneurs residing in Ukraine can participate in the competition. The participant must be registered in this status for at least three years.
Individual participation and participation with the involvement of contractors and/or co-executors are allowed.
Competitive projects are executed using computer graphics. Additional requirements for competitive projects are specified in the technical assignment for the competition.
Participants of the competition can provide additional project materials that detail the idea of the competitive project.
The language of the contest is Ukrainian.

*The relevant competition is a mechanism for the implementation of the tasks of the Concept for Modernization and Development of the National Museum “Chernobyl” for the period up to 2025, approved by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of 05.10.2022 No. 635, in terms of organizational improvement of the exposition, its technological equipment with attractive and interactive elements (installations).
