“We all fight like one fist” — a guard of the 50th Regiment of the National Guard about the fighting in the Luhansk region
Roman Zoriy, a senior sergeant of the National Guard of Ukraine from Ivano-Frankivsk region, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Kalush District Hospital. Roman received a gunshot wound to the hand during shelling near Kreminna in Luhansk region. The guard told about his path from trucker to military.
He recalls the most difficult battle in Luhansk region, which lasted three days. Then he went to “zero”. The novel recounts that during this battle he was without sleep and food, but did not feel hungry. An important factor in the war, he said, is the support and cooperation between the brothers.
During mortar fire on the third day of battle, Roman received a shrapnel wound in the arm. He recalls his first thought: “How is there no hand? How am I going to play football?” However, he put a tourniquet on his hand, and the mine burned the wound and stopped the bleeding.
Roman Zoriy sees the struggle for the independence of Ukraine as a continuation of the cause of his ancestors. He says that his grandmother told about a brother who was in the “banderivtsi” and defended Ukraine. Roman notes that he has this independence struggle in his blood. He hopes that after his recovery he will return to his comrades and continue to serve until the victory of Ukraine.
