Every day, despite the extreme heat, fatigue and remoteness from their homes, Ukrainian rescuers worked to help the fraternal people of Slovenia overcome the consequences of the catastrophic flood.

Local residents raised Ukrainian flags, children treated them with sweets, coffee and donated drawings. And it was really nice, because the highest award for every rescuer is the gratitude of people for their work.

For 17 days of work, the specialists of the State Emergency Service carried out a colossal work: they disassembled houses and structures destroyed by the flood. Cleared and widened more than one and a half thousand meters of the river, fortified about 1300 meters of the shore. They moved more than 53 thousand cubic meters of soil, stone and silt and changed the course on one of the sites to protect the residential buildings from heavy water.

In addition, 11 units of heavy engineering equipment from other countries, which worked close to the areas of emergency recovery work, were transported. The total route carried out by the drivers of the State Emergency Service was more than 1800 km.

The tasks that were assigned to the Ukrainian rescuers were completed in full. The Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Liquidation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Slovenia sent a letter of thanks to Ukraine for the assistance provided in the elimination of the consequences of the flood. With a sense of satisfaction from the work done, our rescuers return home.

“They missed home, there was not enough family - this is probably the most difficult thing about the job,” the emergency rescue workers admit.
