Ukrainian police take part in the 90th session of the General Assembly of Interpol
The international event is held in New Delhi, India. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by the Head of the Department of International Police Cooperation of the National Police of Ukraine Vasyl Nevolya.
The participants of the session are the heads of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), senior officials of the police and other law enforcement agencies of the member countries of this and other international organizations. Law enforcers discuss the most pressing issues of international cooperation in the fight against crime.
At the request of Ukraine, the session considered issues concerning the study of the procedure for suspension of membership and (or) exclusion of a member country from the MOCC-Interpol. This is due to the absence of such a procedure and the need to create an opportunity and, more importantly, a legal basis for raising the issue of excluding any country from the MOCC-Interpol due to misuse of the tools and databases of this organization.
Therefore, the draft report and resolution prepared by the National Police of Ukraine with the assistance of the Office for Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat of Interpol were proposed for consideration and subsequent voting by the General Assembly.
Ukraine's proposal was supported by the majority of delegates. The MOCC-Interpol Working Group is instructed to submit its conclusions and proposals on this issue before the start of the 91st session of the General Assembly, which will be held in the autumn of 2023.
In addition, the National Police delegation plans to hold a series of bilateral meetings with the heads of other delegations to discuss bilateral police cooperation issues.
At the moment, a meeting of the delegation of the National Police of Ukraine and the Secretary General of Interpol, Jürgen Stok, has already taken place.
Also during the General Assembly, elections to the Executive Committee of the MOCCP-Interpol were held, in particular for the positions of Vice-President for Europe and Delegates from Africa. According to the results of the vote, the representative of Belgium, Peter de Buischer, was elected as the new Vice-President of Interpol for Europe.
