Ukrainian border guard became world champion in kickboxing
A soldier of the Volyn border detachment won “gold” at the ISKA World Kickboxing Championship.
Recently, the International competitions were held in Turkey, in which Sofia Podvalna participated as part of the national team of Ukraine, performing in the weight category “55 kg”. She won the championship and became the world champion.
“This championship was extremely important for me compared to other competitions, and preparation is one of the most difficult,” the athlete admits.
The preparation phase lasted for three months. In the training, the technique was polished, the work on tactical and physical training was polished. Quite often we had to practice without lights in the gym and to the sounds of sirens that sounded during the air alarm. Despite her shoulder injury, Sofia trained hard to represent Ukraine with dignity.
“I wanted not only to win the prize, but also to make sure that in such a difficult time for our country the national anthem of Ukraine sounded on the international arena, and the Ukrainian flag was raised on the highest pedestal,” the border guard said.
The champion dedicated her victory to her brother Vladislav Nedilko, who died in the first days of a full-scale invasion in the battle near Lisichansk.
“He always believed in me and was proud of my success in sports,” says Sofia.
