Ukraine received a road map for joining the system of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism
On October 19, the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Yanez Lenarchich handed over the road map to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky. This is a document that spells out the specific steps to be implemented in Ukraine before acquiring full membership in the system.
The European Commissioner noted that the duration of the process of acquiring full membership in the Central System depends on both sides of Ukraine and the European Union.
“All the steps listed are quite simple, I am sure that Ukraine will be able to implement them quickly. While the accession process continues, the EU will continue to provide all necessary assistance. I look forward to the time when not only the EU will help Ukraine, but also when Ukrainian rescuers will share their experience and help the EU in the fight against emergencies. I know and I am sure that this will be a very significant strengthening of the civil protection system of the European Union countries,” Janez Lenarchich said.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs thanked the Commissioner for particularly effective cooperation and support of Ukraine in the fight against the consequences of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
“For eight months now, we have been working 24/7. Given such a schedule, I am confident that we will be able to quickly work out the requirements spelled out in this document,” Denis Monastyrsky assured.
In a conversation with the European Commissioner, the Minister outlined the new challenges facing Ukraine today. Among them, ensuring proper response to emergencies in de-occupied territories, access to the state border in territories liberated by Ukraine and restoration of energy infrastructure destroyed by the Russian Federation.
Denis Monastyrsky also mentioned the capabilities that Ukraine will be able to share with the EU:
- Use of SNS aviation to eliminate fires and respond to emergencies. The air fleet of Ukrainian rescuers is one of the best on the European continent. Earlier, at the state level, the creation of a European air safety hub in Europe was already discussed.
- Unique mining experience. The experience gained by our pyrotechnics today will be the largest in Europe.
- Experience in the analysis of rubble with the involvement of the civilian population. The SNS will be able to help any country that applies to the organization of such events. Of course, this applies to large-scale cataclysms and destruction.
It should be noted that within the framework of the Civil Protection Mechanism, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received more than 70 thousand tons of aid from EU countries from food products, to mining equipment and special equipment.
For reference: The Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union is the world's largest system of international coordinated emergency assistance. The system includes a variety of resources and forms of assistance from 28 member countries and 4 EU candidate countries (32 countries in total).
