Ukraine joins the system of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism

Today, April 20, with the participation of the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko and the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Yanez Lenarchich, the signing ceremony of the agreement on Ukraine's accession to the system of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism took place.

The Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union is the world's largest system of providing international coordinated operational assistance in case of emergency situations, which is especially important for Ukraine, which has been at war for more than a year.

During the joint briefing, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko thanked EU Commissioner Yanez Lenarchich and stressed the importance of international support against the background of constant attacks by Russia:

“On February 24 last year, on the first day of the Russian invasion, Yanez Lenarchich picked up the phone and from the first hour began to help us. All this time, it was EU Commissioner Janez Lenarchich who organized all humanitarian assistance related to the work of the State Emergency Service. These are generators, demining equipment, rescue vehicles, combat clothing for rescuers and more.”

Igor Klymenko stressed that the signing of the agreement on Ukraine's accession to the system of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism is Ukraine's step towards a common European family. Even despite the constant attacks from the Russian side, the world with Ukraine.

“This agreement makes us a full participant in the system of International Coordination Assistance and Coordination Response to any consequences of extraordinary events. Therefore, we have become one step closer to the European Union,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

In turn, EU Commissioner Janez Lenarchich welcomed the agreement and said that Ukraine is truly part of the European family.

According to him, with the capabilities that Ukraine has now, it can fight the aggressor and win back its own territory.

Separately, the Head of the Department Igor Klimenko noted the heroism of Ukrainian rescuers who saved thousands of lives since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. In particular, they managed to eliminate about 15 thousand fires that arose due to shelling from the Russian side.
