In the spring of 2022, all attempts of the enemy to make a breakthrough were repulsed under the leadership of Yuri Obykhod in the Rubezhny district, in the Luhansk region. Today he is the commander of the 3rd battalion of the brigade of NGU “Bureva”. For the steadfastness and courage shown in repelling the enemy, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine presented the defender with a state award - the medal “Defender of the Fatherland”.
Yuriy Obykhod has been serving in the National Guard since 2017. A full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation met in Luhansk region - near Severodonetsk, and in a few days the commander of the general military reserve of the battalion tactical group of the NGU came to the defense of Rubezhny.
“We attacked the enemy by fire. Then were wounded as part of my reserve. I remember everyone who I carried in my arms and provided help,” the National Guard said.
Also, the soldier recalled how he and his brothers held the city of Rubizhne. Yuriy stressed that during street battles, Ukrainian defenders fought for every house and brick.
In May, Ukrainian fighters had to retreat from Rubezhny. At the same time, according to Yuri, he was the last officer of the National Guard of Ukraine, who left the city.
Then the crossing over the river was destroyed, but during the retreat our defenders managed to avoid casualties. After the National Guard continued to defend Ukraine near Severodonetsk.
“All the bridges to the city have been completely damaged. This made it very difficult to conduct hostilities. Evacuation of the wounded could take up to several hours. However, in our unit, everyone remained alive,” the commander said.
Back in December, the National Guard opposed the enemy Bakhmut direction, and now he is focused on new tasks related to the command of the 3rd battalion of the brigade of the NGU “Bureva”:
“The plans are to select motivated, hardened personnel, with whom we will go to the border of our state. It does not matter where it will be - Luhansk direction or Donetsk. Or even Crimea, where I once visited resorts.”
Also, the soldier's greatest desire remains the victory of Ukraine, which he seeks to bring as soon as possible.
