In Lviv, they said goodbye to the Hero of Ukraine Igor Dashko
The border guard died a year ago during the defense of Mariupol. The last words he uttered on the radio station were “Glory to Ukraine”.
In the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv, during the memorial service, the memory of the Hero was honored and the city ceremony of farewell to the warrior was held. Representatives of the Administration of the State Border Service of Ukraine, colleagues and staff of the Western Regional Administration, 1st Border Detachment and 23rd Marine Guard Detachment, townspeople came to say goodbye to their brother. Igor Dashko is buried on the Field of Mars.
For his personal courage and heroism in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people by decree of the President of Ukraine Igor Dashko was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine (posthumously). Also, the officer was awarded the military title “colonel” (posthumously).
In accordance with the will of Lviv residents, on September 29, 2022, the former Filatov Street in Lviv was renamed in honor of Igor Dashko. In addition, the streets renamed in his honor are now in Sambor and Khmelnytskyi.
Recall, Igor was born in the city of Sambir, Lviv region. In 1999 he joined the ranks of border guards. In particular, the officer devoted more than 10 years of his life to the service for the protection of the western borders of Ukraine.
In the battles for Mariupol, during an attempt to break through the enemy defense, he covered the departure of his comrades to reserve positions. He was seriously wounded. In order not to be captured himself and prevent the enemy from capturing the radio station, the Warrior made a difficult decision — to blow himself up with a grenade. The last words of the brave border guard were heard on the radio: “Glory to Ukraine!”
Glory to the Hero! The memory of him will forever remain in our hearts!
