A deputy of the city council was detained in Kropyvnytskyi for “knocking out” non-existent debts
Under his leadership, the members of the criminal group, using physical violence and threats to the family, demanded 92 thousand dollars from a local entrepreneur. The attackers were exposed during the receipt of the next part of the funds.
Law enforcement officers during the investigation established that the deputy of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council demanded 92 thousand US dollars from the entrepreneur, and also charged interest for late payment. In order to force him to pay his ill-gotten debt, the deputy repeatedly used physical violence against the entrepreneur. Together with an accomplice, the defendant intimidated the victim and his family. Since the victim did not have such funds, he was forced to sell the land and commercial establishments that belonged to his family members.
Law enforcers detained the deputy in his office when he received the next part of the funds. During searches at the place of residence and work of the detainee, cash, jewelry and property of the victim were seized.
The defendant and his accomplice were informed of the suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 189 Criminal Code of Ukraine (Extortion). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property. The investigation appealed to the court with a request to elect the suspects a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to make bail. The investigation is ongoing.
