On December 12, in Kyiv, the resource center for law enforcement “Hub UAPPO” started its work. It will become an informal platform for the development of law enforcement officers from other departments. The site will also serve to implement the Community Policing approach (deepening the cooperation of police officers with civil society and the civilian population). The implementation of the project was made possible thanks to the support of the US Embassy and the Embassies of Canada in Ukraine.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Natalka Tsmots, Attorney for Affairs of the US Embassy in Ukraine Robert Nidem and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Annelia Kolk joined the events on the occasion of the opening of the center.

In times of war, when law enforcement officers are constantly involved in the performance of tasks and suffer from emotional burnout, such a site should become a place of recovery, informal communication and exchange of experience.

“Today, the Association is a center for exchange of experience and development of police officers. So, together with partners, we open our resource center “Hub UAPPO”. This will allow us to conduct various trainings, consultations and raise the professional level,” said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko.

She also said that in the near future it is planned to hold: trainings for police officers on improving the effectiveness of responding to domestic violence, self-defense for women, on tactical medicine and home care, as well as classes and workshops for children.

“The work performed today by Ukrainian women and men — law enforcement officers is very important, and at the same time dangerous. I want to celebrate your bravery and personally thank you for your service to the citizens of Ukraine. I hope that the UAPPO Hub will serve the Association and its more than 500 members and members well, and become a place of learning and growth. Your courage and sacrifice are seen and appreciated. Canada is proud to support you in this important matter,” Natalka Tsmots said.

According to Robert Nidem, the United States in Ukraine has identified one of its priorities — strengthening the role of women in building peace, stability and security in different countries of the world. That is why the US Embassy in Ukraine is a partner not only to the Government, but also to non-governmental organizations such as the UAPPO. “We strongly believe that women have a central role to play in the fight against crime and in ensuring justice. Successful examples of the Department of Patrol Police and the “New Face of the Border” program have shown the effectiveness of a new approach to the selection of employees and employees for law enforcement agencies. And our goal is to support women in the security and defense sectors,” said the U.S. Embassy's Attorney in Ukraine.

He expressed hope that the resource center “Hub UAPPO” will help women law enforcement officers exchange experiences, overcome challenges and help each other.

For reference: UAPPO is the Ukrainian Association of Law Enforcement Representatives, which unites 542 participants and participants. Among them are police officers, border guards, rescuers and other security and law enforcement officials. Founded in 2018, it is an affiliate member of the International Association of Women Police Officers. The association helps participants develop leadership qualities, provides a platform for sharing experiences and creates a network for dialogue and exchange of ideas.
