The State Emergency Service of Ukraine held a meeting with the Japanese partners on demining in Ukraine

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine held a meeting with the representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japanese companies. 

The event was attended by Andrii Danyk, the Acting Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Roman Prymush, Deputy Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and Natalia Andriichuk, Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. 
 
"First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Nikken Corporation, ALISys Company, along with the Government of Japan and the entire people of Japan for their tremendous assistance and support of Ukraine in this extremely challenging time for our country," said Andrii Danyk. 
 
He has stated that Japan continues to provide significant assistance to the SESU.  Every third vehicle used by the SES EOD units in the process of demining was received owing to the support of Japan. 
 

In particular, the SESU EOD experts use 20 pickup trucks, 20 station wagon trucks, 50 ALIS metal detectors and 30 ISUZU crane trucks provided by the Japanese partners. 
 
The acting Head of the SESU briefed foreign partners on the situation with the clearance of the Ukrainian land from explosive ordnance, as well as the challenges faced by the EOD units and all Ukrainian emergency responders as a result of the russian armed aggression. 
 
Andrii Danyk also stressed the need for assistance to be rendered in maintaining the special equipment used in demining and for the relevant facilities to be located in Ukraine. 
The participants of the meeting discussed the possibility of further cooperation in the field of technical equipment for the SESU EOD experts. They also discussed training for Ukrainian experts on the effective use of the equipment already provided. 
 

Representatives of the Japanese companies, in their turn, presented the products they manufacture for clearing territories of explosive ordnance. 
For reference. The area of potentially mined territory of Ukraine currently totals about 156 thousand square kilometres. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia, the SESU EOD experts have disposed of almost 496,000 explosive devices, including 3,537 aerial bombs.
