The State Emergency Service discussed the development of units of voluntary fire protection
In Ukraine, the process of formation and development of voluntary fire protection (DPO) continues. This was discussed during a special seminar-meeting held on the initiative of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and with the participation of the Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Oleg Bondarenko.
Today, in Ukraine, together with the units of the State Emergency Service, 1057 fire and rescue units serve to provide local fire protection, almost 20.7 thousand fire and rescue units to provide voluntary fire protection. However, according to the calculations of the State Emergency Service, in order to meet the needs in the territory of the communities in accordance with the existing calculations, it remains necessary to additionally create another 3,153 units of local and voluntary fire protection. Voluntary fire protection is a component of the unified state civil protection system.
These are modern “heroes among themselves.” Therefore, in the current conditions, it is important and necessary to form such units in remote rural settlements.
“The most acute issue is the organization of extinguishing fires in areas where there are many settlements, to which the state fire and rescue unit can arrive only after a much longer time,” said Deputy Head of the State Emergency Service Roman Primus.One of the solutions to this problem may be the involvement of voluntary firefighters teams of veterans.
And it will be an effective tool for adaptation and reintegration of servicemen after returning from the war. The
participants of the meeting-seminar discussed pressing issues related to the creation of a single manual and unified methodological recommendations on the formation of DPO and the possibilities of involving veterans in the volunteer movement. The stages of implementation of the project “Ya-Volunteer” were also discussed.
