Three children rescued by fire fighters: emergency workers recall safety rules
Firefighters rescued three children in fires in residential buildings. One of the cases occurred in Odessa. There was burning in a 16-storey residential building.
Emergency responders rescued a child of 2018 at the scene. Her team of emergency medical care with a diagnosis of poisoning by combustion products in a serious condition was hospitalized in Odessa Children's Clinical Hospital.
The fire caused the burning of food in an apartment on the 10th floor.
On the same day, in the Dnipropetrovsk region in the Kryvyi Rih district, a one-story residential building burned in the evening. There was a 34-year-old woman and two children - a girl born in 2011 and a boy born in 2020.
Emergency workers took them out to fresh air and extinguished the fire.
Rescuers once again appeal to citizens to be cautious and comply with fire safety rules.
If the fire caught you in the room:
- be aware of the existing danger and the direction of its location;
- if you wake up from the noise of fire and the smell of smoke, do not sit in bed, but roll from it to the floor;
- crawl on the floor under a cloud of smoke to the doors of the room, but do not open them immediately to avoid intensification of the fire from a large influx of air from the outside;
- gently touch the door with the back of your palm: if the doors are hot - do not open them, smoke and flames will not let them out, if the door is not hot, then carefully open it and walk away;
- close the door tightly, and close all the cracks and openings with any cloth to avoid further penetration of smoke, and crawl back into the depths of the room, taking rescue measures;
- sit down, take a deep breath of air, open a window or break the window glass with a solid object, and attract the attention of people who may call the fire brigade; if you exit through the door, lock it and crawl to the exit of the room;
- be sure to lock all doors behind you;
- during a fire it is forbidden to use elevators;
- it is necessary to leave the fire zone to the windward side - to where the wind blows;
- if you are in a high-rise building, do not run down through the fire, but take the opportunity to escape on the roof of the building;
- when the staircases are smoky, it is necessary to tightly close the doors leading to them, and in case of strong smoke, go to the balcony, taking a damp blanket with you to hide from the fire in case of its penetration through the openings;
- when there is no other way out, the evacuation must be continued along the stairs or through another apartment, if there is no fire there, using tightly tied sheets, ropes or fire sleeves. You need to go down one by one, securing each other;
if a fire shaft is coming at you, do not hesitate to fall, covering your head with a wet cloth, hold your breath; - if you have been cut off by fire, smoke from the main evacuation routes, it is necessary to cover with rags all the curtains around the perimeter of the door and under it to prevent the access of fire and smoke.
Actions during the rescue of victims from the fire from the houses:
- Before entering a burning room, cover yourself with a wet blanket, any clothing or a thick cloth;
- open the door with extreme caution: open slowly, covering yourself with a door cloth to provide protection against temperature drops and exposure to flames;
- in a heavily smoky room, move crawling or bending;
- to reduce the negative effects of dangerous fire factors (smoke, dust, high temperature), it is necessary to breathe through a heavily moistened cloth;
- first of all, save children, disabled people and the elderly. Remember that small children often hide out of fear under the bed, in the closet and are clamped in corners;
- when you see a person with clothes on fire, drop it on the ground and quickly throw on a coat, cloak or any blanket or blanket (preferably moistened) and press it tightly to the body, if necessary, call for medical help;
- if your clothes are on fire, fall to the ground and turn over to knock down the flames, in no case run - this contributes to the inflating of the fire.
Signs of poisoning with toxic substances:
- constant cough, hallucinations;
- headache, fatigue;
- irritation of the conjunctiva, allergic skin reactions;
- dizziness, weakness, pallor of the skin;
- nosebleeds, nausea, vomiting;
- violation of coordination of movements;
- in severe cases - loss of consciousness.
Home medical care:
- take the victim to fresh air
- rinse your throat and mouth with a solution of baking soda (1 teaspoon per glass of warm water);
- if the substance gets on the skin, it is necessary to wash the affected area with warm water and soap, close with a clean bandage;
- if the substance enters the eyes, rinse them with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes, then apply a dry bandage;
- if the substance has got into the stomach, you should rinse it - let it drink 5-6 glasses of warm water, then induce vomiting.
