On September 20, Acting Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchuk and representatives of the Service met with the delegation of the Directorate-General of the European Commission for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ESNO), headed by Andreas Papaconstantina - Director of ESNO for European Affairs Neighbourhood, the Middle East, South-Eastern Europe and the Eastern Partnership.

“We very much appreciate the help of the European community in overcoming the consequences of Russia's military aggression by Ukraine. In particular, we thank you for your support during the elimination of the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant. We look forward to our further cooperation and mutual support, including within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. We are making every effort for further integration into the Mechanism, which Ukraine joined in April of this year,” Volodymyr Demchuk said during the meeting.

Currently, the process of ratification of the necessary package of documents is underway, after which Ukraine will be able not only to receive assistance within the framework of the Mechanism, but also, as a full participant, to provide support to other countries.

“Ukraine is now a key priority for us. Within the framework of the Mechanism, we constantly provide assistance in accordance with the needs that we receive from Ukrainian partners. At the same time, we thank the rescuers of the National Emergency Service for their participation in the elimination of the consequences of the floods in the Republic of Slovenia. By your actions, you prove that even in times of war in your country, you are ready to help other states.
Therefore, I am convinced that Ukraine in the near future will be one of the key participants of the Mechanism not only in receiving, but also in providing assistance,” emphasized Andreas Papaconstantinou.

He also assured Ukrainian partners that the European Union will continue to support Ukraine, in particular, through the Civil Protection Mechanism.
