Instructors from Rivne and the Netherlands conducted 4-day courses for police officers from different departments of the capital's chapter, where they taught how to properly provide first aid to the victims according to the M.A.R.C.H protocol.

For the police officers of the Metropolitan Police, 4-day courses on tactical medicine and first aid in conditions of war and terrorist threats were organized. 67 police officers from different units of the Kiev police took part in the training.

Classes were conducted in several stages: first, the instructors told about the procedure for assessing the condition of the victim according to the M.A.R.C.H. protocol in order to determine the provision of first aid in tactical and combat conditions. This algorithm is designed to help quickly identify injuries that are most life-threatening, stabilize the condition of the victim and increase the chances of survival.

The M.A.R.C.H. protocol provides for five steps, among which are: elimination of massive bleeding, evaluation and control of the respiratory tract, resolution of any respiratory problems such as straining pneumothorax, which can impair breathing and lead to death, assess and manage the affected person's blood flow, eliminate hyphthalmia hypothermia, that is, hypothermia.

The police officers passed the theoretical part of the training and learned how to properly impose a tourniquet on the limbs, bandage the places of possible bleeding, check the respiratory tract of the victim, give him a stable lateral position, warm up and evacuate from the danger zone. After that, law enforcement officers were waiting for various situational exercises, which were as close as possible to the real ones.

During the practical part, the participants dealt with the “wounded” on the battlefield: under simulated explosions and smoke, they had to pull the victims out of the red zone on their stretchers while stopping massive bleeding, and other home care was provided already in the less dangerous yellow or green zone.

Police officers applied tourniquets, tamped wounds and applied bandages, in case of chest injuries, special stickers were glued to avoid pneumothorax, helped the victims breathe freely, putting them in a stable lateral position, wrapping the body in a thermal blanket ru. For a more realistic effect, the actors applied imitation blood and wounds on themselves, screamed in pain, snapped, and behaved like real wounded.

All police officers successfully coped with the tasks and at the end of the training received the appropriate certificate.
