Steel defender of Mariupol — Volodymyr Vdovenko
Since February 24, 2022, the seafarer of the border guard Vladimir Vdovenko, together with the servicemen of the 23rd Marine Guard detachment, defended the city of Mariupol. Under continuous enemy attacks, the fighters strengthened defensive positions in the city and served in combat posts.
On April 5, during artillery shelling, a shell hit Vladimir's position and wounded our defender. Even though the border guard was bleeding, he held on and encouraged his colleagues. He was brought to the field underground hospital on the territory of “Azovstal”. And as soon as Vladimir's wound began to heal, he again took up arms and joined the defense.
According to the order of the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine, on May 16, all the soldiers of the Mariupol garrison left the territory of the Azovstal plant and were taken prisoner.
At the end of May, as a result of the exchange of prisoners, Vladimir was taken to a hospital in Ukraine, where he continues his treatment and rehabilitation until now.
Vladimir Vdovenko was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III degree.
