Caused environmental damage of UAH 32 million: police in Pryluky reported suspicion of local council deputy
Law enforcement officers have accused the deputy who heads the municipal enterprise in Priluki of large-scale pollution of land with hazardous waste. A 28-fold excess of the content of petroleum products in the soil was recorded.
The investigation found that the official allowed a private firm to take hazardous petroleum waste to a local landfill.
Under the concluded contract, the company had the right to export to the landfill only solid waste of oil production. Instead, liquid drilling sludge with hazardous chemical compounds was exported for a long time.
The examination showed that the content of petroleum products in the soil exceeded the maximum permissible limit by 28 times. Also, the level of metal content has actually been exceeded. Environmental damage is estimated at 32 million hryvnias.
Investigators of the Investigative Department of the Police of the Region together with the operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office informed the official about the suspicion of committing criminal offenses provided for in part 2 of article 239 (pollution or damage to land) and part 2 of article 367 (non-official due diligence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The maximum penalty provided by law for such actions is up to five years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities.
