This was discussed today, during the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko with specialists of the Israeli organization in the field of first psychological assistance Israel Trauma Coalition.

The Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC) is an organization in Israel with years of experience in the development and implementation of continuous care in psychosocial support, in strengthening community resilience and in ensuring comprehensive emergency preparedness.

During the meeting, the main topic of discussion was the help of ITC in creating the concept and training programs for providing primary psychological support in the first hours and at the scene, coordination and protocols for transferring cases to urban psychosocial support systems, medical institutions, etc., to continue providing further assistance.

The Deputy Ministry of Internal Affairs informed the representatives of the Israel Trauma Coalition about the current psychological projects, in which the specialists of the Ministry are involved. In particular, about the psychological support project “You Like”, created on the initiative of the first lady Elena Zelenska, as well as the project “Equal-Equal” — a mentoring program for veterans.

“Today, departmental psychologists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are actively involved in psychological assistance to the population affected during the war. We are currently reviewing the protocols under which specialists work both “on the first line” of contact with the victims and in the hospitals and medical institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We need expert assistance in developing effective protocols of psychological care, we need to develop an integrated approach that includes constant psychological support of victims,” said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko.

In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and ITC discussed the creation of an internal mechanism for the ongoing implementation of training programs (coaches-for-trainers) for all segments that provide assistance to the population in two main areas - reduction of professional burnout and continuation of functioning, especially for services and personnel located on the “first left” “Contact”.

“The Israel Trauma Coalition is a non-governmental organization with more than twenty years of experience in psychosocial learning, trauma, resilience, and emergency preparedness. Given these hard-won lessons, ITC is ready to share its experience with the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people at a time of such acute need,” said Max Goldenberg, Director of International Projects.

According to him, it is important to create programs in Ukraine to share with Ukrainian psychologists effective crisis assistance techniques, which are necessary when working with the population affected during the war.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed on joint work towards the creation of training programs for training specialists in providing first psychological assistance to the population in the system of bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
