Service 112 in the whole territory of Ukraine will work by the end of 2024, - Leonid Tymchenko
“The emergency service for the population on the single telephone number 112 has been working since July 1 in the territory of the city of Kiev. In the future, it will cover the central macroregion, which will include Kiev, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions,” Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko said on the air of the TV channel “Suspilne”.
He added that the next stage of the project implementation will cover the Western Macroregion with a communication center in the city of Lviv. The western macroregion will include Rivne, Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi and Transcarpathian regions. The third stage is the opening of the center in the city. Dnipro and expansion of service network in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The final stage is the city of Odessa and the southern regions, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Implementation of measures to deploy System 112 throughout Ukraine will depend on the security situation, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs has a clear plan with implementation dates - expansion of the network of centers and customer service are planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
“We have a developed plan: in the Kiev region, the measures should be implemented by the end of August. The opening of the center in Lviv should take place before December 1. If we talk about the Dnieper and Odessa, then, of course, a lot will depend on the security situation. However, according to our plan, by the end of 2024, all of Ukraine should be covered by such centers, and citizens throughout the country will have the opportunity to call 112 on the territory of the whole country,” said Leonid Tymchenko.
Also, the Deputy Minister spoke about the advantages of the single number 112: “The advantage of the single number 112 is when there is a need to call several services at the same time. This can be either the arrival of a rocket or an accident with the injured. For example, when a car is on fire, it is necessary to call, in addition to the police, the emergency services and emergency medical care. This can now be done with a single number 112”.
It is important to note that the other emergency service numbers 101, 102, 103 and 104 continue to operate.
By the way, since July 1, when the only number 112 in the city of Kiev started working, more than 14 thousand calls have been received to the 112 Center, and only about 2 thousand of them were directed to specialized emergency services. This suggests that a large number of calls are out of character. In this way, Service 112 unloads the response services, processing a significant number of requests that do not require the involvement of emergency services.
