Investigators reported the suspicion of the former rector of the university
Abusing his official position, he unreasonably accrued bonuses for three years. For his actions, a man faces up to twelve years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, as well as confiscation of property.
Department for investigating crimes in the sphere of economic and official activities of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the city. Kyiv, in cooperation with the police departments for the protection of public and state interests and the SBU, is investigating criminal proceedings against an ex-officio of one of the capital's higher education institutions, who, by abusing his official position, seized funds of a state university. The perpetrator turned out to be a previously untried native of Kiev, born in 1954.
Law enforcers found out that according to the terms of the contract signed with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine by the former rector, such a form of accrual of funds as a bonus was not provided. Instead, the man illegally accrued monthly bonuses for more than three years and thus appropriated UAH 1,300,000 of university funds.
The investigators collected the necessary evidence base and, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, informed the defendant about the suspicion of committing the crime provided for in Part 1, Part 2, Part 4 and Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — possession of other people's property by abuse of his official position by an official, committed on a particularly large scale. The sanction of the article provides for up to twelve years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, and with confiscation of property. The issue of choosing a precautionary measure is being resolved. The pre-trial investigation continues.
