The emergency alert system of the population of the SNSS is covered by 67% of subscribers
From September 7 to 23, a system for alerting the population about emergencies was tested throughout the country. In total, eight messages were received in each region. Roman Primush, Deputy Chairman of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization, said on the air of “Media Center Ukraine-Ukrinform”.
“This number of messages is due to the fact that we sent them, identified shortcomings, and then checked whether these shortcomings were fixed,” Roman Primush explained.
According to him, the alert center is already fully ready for work.
“At the beginning of testing, subscriber coverage was 41%. The system has now reached 67% coverage, which is a good indicator considering the speed of customization. It was also possible to configure for older models of phones, so that they also receive emergency messages,” said the deputy head of the State Emergency Service.
In addition, the experts checked the operation of the system at maximum capacity, that is, in the case of sending messages throughout the country at the same time. Roman Primush noted that, most likely, it will not be necessary to notify the entire state about emergencies at the same time. Notifications will need to be sent only by region.
Now experts are working on adaptation to the operating systems of the old generation 2015-2018.
“We encourage residents to update their operating systems to support the new features that are being implemented. Now we are working to ensure that alerts also come to push-button phones, because some owners of such phones do not yet receive them,” explained the deputy head of the State Emergency Service.
If a citizen has a completely outdated phone model, he will receive notifications using existing systems.
Roman Primush noted that the State Emergency Service does not track a person's location and does not collect their personal data: “The system does not work like a regular SMS alert. We just send the signal to the base station, and the base station then sends it to the phone.”
