The force of fire technicians of the State Emergency Service will be increased by 400 people, the first group of specialists is already undergoing retraining
Oleg Bondar, Head of the Department of Pyrotechnic Works and Humanitarian Drainage of the State Emergency Service, informed about this at a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.
“The force of fire technicians of the State Emergency Service will be increased by 400 people. At the moment, the first group of 60 specialists has started training, in a few weeks they will start demining the territory of our state,” he said.
Oleg Bondar added that one of the biggest negative consequences of the Russian invasion is the contamination of the territory with explosive objects, including those prohibited by international conventions. The enemy uses remote mining systems, cassette elements.
“These mines were found throughout the territory of Ukraine, where the occupiers were located. The total number of prohibited munitions is about 10% of all detected explosive items,” added the head of the Department of Pyrotechnic Works Organization and Humanitarian Demining of the State Emergency Service.
The State Emergency Service explained that explanatory work with the population is carried out on an ongoing basis. According to international experience, such demining can last from 5 to 10 years. Immediately after the liberation of cities and villages from the occupier, pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service begin to explore the territory of farms, private buildings and other structures.
“Primarily, we focus our efforts on surveyed settlements that were under occupation. Russians mined everything — children's toys, household items, household appliances. All the efforts of the aggressor were aimed at injuring myself and the death of the civilian population,” Oleg Bondar stressed.
He added that daily pyrotechnics remove from 2 to 5 thousand explosive objects. Since the beginning of the war, the SNS has explored more than 20 thousand hectares of territory, discovered and destroyed more than 100 thousand objects.
