“The milestone for more than two months was across the throat of the invaders,” — guard on defense of Luhansk region
“The educational anxiety turned out to be not educational at all,” Bohdan, a national guard from Kryvyi Rih, recalls the morning of February 24. The city of Rubezhnoe, where he served, for more than two months was a real “bone in the throat” for the Russian occupiers. In the epicenter of these fierce battles was the 23-year-old Bogdan.
“We should have had some kind of combat coordination and special training. However, the anxiety from which we woke up turned out to be martial. Next, everything for the classics: obtaining weapons and ammunition, training in the defense of a military town. I met a real full-fledged war at the age of 23.”
Three days later, the guard was part of the platoon, which had to defend one of the potential areas of the enemy's breakthrough. The cardboard factory on the outskirts of Rubezhny for almost two months became both a place of fighting and a home.
“During these two months there was everything: and firefights with enemy infantry, and work on enemy tanks and armored personnel carriers, and quite difficult and tense situations. The most memorable thing is that for three days we sat virtually surrounded by the enemy. It was in the private sector and we just kept the defense in the garages of the locals. On the third day, we were actually attacked. And only thanks to the reinforcement, which was very timely, we managed to beat the enemy in the teeth and get out of the actual surroundings,” says the guard.
Such fighting in the city, according to Bohdan, was a common thing for the Guards and other defense forces during the fighting for Rubizhne. It tells us that our units acted in a coordinated, strategic and tactically flexible manner, instead the occupiers had their tactics.
“The enemy simply leveled everything with the ground in his path. They just destroyed everything and everyone. A special role in these battles was assigned to the representatives of the two unrecognized republics: they were used like cannon meat, as if a kind of reconnaissance by battle. All in order to find out where our forces are,” Bohdan describes the events.
For the defense of the Border Guard, he was awarded the National Guard Commander's Commendation — the badge “For Valorous Service”.
According to Bohdan, every military man deserves the distinction, as well as every Ukrainian who has been forging our dream victory for five months. He is convinced that our people are invincible and therefore invincible. He believes that Ukraine will return every town and village. And in the end, we will celebrate such a Victory dreamed of by millions of Ukrainians.
