Ukrainian shot and burned cars: Russian military will be tried for crimes in Kharkiv region
Law enforcement officers have exposed Russian servicemen who shot a Ukrainian during the temporary occupation of Kharkiv region. These are two servicemen of the 7th Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation nicknamed “Communist” and “Fan” and a soldier of the 202nd motorized rifle regiment of the so-called “LPR”.
During the occupation of the Izyum and Kupyansk districts, the defendants repeatedly took away cars from local residents under threat of execution. In particular, in March 2022, the military of the Russian Federation, under threat of weapons, took away a car from a local resident. After a while, they burned the car in the field.
One of the episodes even ended in murder. In July 2022, a soldier “Fanat” came to the farm allegedly for the purpose of repairing the car. He called the owner, who had an active Ukrainian position, and killed the man with a shot in the head. The car burned due to an engine malfunction.
During the temporary occupation, soldiers of the Russian army took away six cars and one engine for a boat worth almost a million hryvnias. In December last year, three Russian military personnel were declared under suspicion.
Currently, the indictment under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 and 2 of Article 438 (Cruel treatment of the civilian population combined with premeditated murder committed by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been sent to court. For the crime, the accused faces up to 15 years in prison.
