Within the framework of the Open Border project, traffic has been opened at the updated checkpoint “Krakivets — Korchowa”, located on the border with Poland. At the checkpoint “Krakivets”, the number of lanes for trucks has increased and a terminal for passenger cars has been opened. The event was held with the participation of representatives of the Government of Ukraine and Poland, border, customs authorities, local authorities.

Work on increasing the bandwidth at the checkpoint started just 10 days ago. In particular, the number of lanes for trucks has been increased from 4 to 10 and an additional terminal for border and customs control of passenger vehicles and buses has been created. For this purpose, the Polish side provided special container modules. To intensify border traffic at the expanded checkpoint, the number of border outfits and customs officers has been increased.

This has already made it possible to almost double the possibilities of border traffic. During the first six hours of operation in the new format through the checkpoint “Krakivets” 130 units of heavy transport were issued for departure from Ukraine. It is worth noting that according to the figures of last week, about 300 trucks were registered per day, that is, about 75 trucks within 6 hours.

“The ultimate goal of our cooperation is, of course, joint control. We are waiting for important news in the near future regarding Ukraine's candidacy for membership in the European Union. And the day will come when there really will be no borders between our countries,” said Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.

Attending the event, Deputy Head of the Department — Head of the Department of Border Control Yuriy Lysiuk thanked Polish colleagues for cooperation at the state border and noted that this is a vivid example of how the joint efforts of all state bodies that carry out their activities at the border at checkpoints can be done quickly, promptly and increase the passenger-transport flow.

It should be recalled that the project “Open Border” was initiated within the framework of the agreements of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and President of Poland Andrzej Duda and was agreed at a meeting of Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental consultations. This project provides for the elimination of bottlenecks on the western border and the improvement of logistics in the Ukraine-EU direction. Within the framework of the “Open Border”, it is planned to rebuild the infrastructure of existing checkpoints (including access roads), the construction of new points, the introduction of joint border and customs control with neighboring states.
