He incited religious hatred and distributed propaganda leaflets: law enforcement officers announced suspicion of a priest
Law enforcement officers declared suspicion to the rector of the church of the Ovruck-Korosten Eparchy of the UOC (MP). The National Police, together with the SBU, established that the priest incited religious hatred by distributing propaganda literature.
The examinations carried out confirmed that the leaflets and brochures distributed by the abbot are a political propaganda product. Law enforcement officers discovered campaign materials in June 2023 during searches in the Ovruck-Korosten and Zhytomyr dioceses of the UOC.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the rector of the temple was informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Art. 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Therefore, the priest of the Ovruck-Korosten diocese faces punishment from fine to imprisonment for up to 3 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to 3 years or without it.
An investigation is now underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
