Break the cycle of violence: how to recognize domestic violence and where to turn for help
The topic of domestic violence is still taboo for many people. They say you can not take “garbage” beyond the threshold. According to this principle, more than one generation grows up, suffering physical and moral violence, contempt and insults. However, now is the time to break the cycle of violence. By contacting law enforcement agencies in time, you can prevent wrongdoing and protect yourself.
Forms of violence are different, except physical, that is, the cause of bodily harm. In particular, there are sexual, psychological and economic forms of violence. Recognizing them is easier by using the portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Police often receive reports of domestic violence. In particular, in Kharkiv, those who were not indifferent informed by law enforcement officers that screams of women and requests for help are heard on August 23 from the apartment of a high-rise building.
Employees of the domestic violence sector went to the scene. The apartment was locked from the inside, no one opened the door, the woman continued to ask for help. Police officers called to the scene of the State Emergency Service, who with the help of special means got to the property. Law enforcement officers found a 33-year-old woman, a 41-year-old friend and a 43-year-old man in a state of intoxication in the apartment.
Police officers stopped the conflict and called in medics. Regarding the offender, the police drew up a protocol under Article 173-2 (committing domestic violence, gender-based violence, failure to comply with an urgent prohibition order or failure to notify the place of his temporary stay) of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses and established that the offender had previously been brought to the administration Responsibilità.
A similar situation occurred in Zaporozhye. There, the 57-year-old abuser systematically bullied his scantily mobile roommate. He was repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility, and this did not stop the aggressor. Investigators have now started criminal proceedings. The offender faces up to 2 years in prison.
Domestic violence also happens to children. Often, a minor is unable to contact law enforcement on their own, mostly because of fear. Therefore, the police urge parents, relatives or neighbors to contact the hotline “102” if you witness an act of violence against a child.
Now the police of Chernihiv region are investigating the circumstances of the beating of a 7-year-old child by a father. The boy was hospitalized with a broken arm. A resident of one of the villages in the area reported the beating to the police. She claimed that her neighbors beat her son. A police investigative and operational team and juvenile prevention officers immediately went to the scene of the incident.
Law enforcement officers established that the father, in a state of alcoholic intoxication, “raised” his son and caused him bodily harm, namely, broke his arm. An ambulance was called to the scene, which took the child to the hospital.
Law enforcers urge citizens not to silence domestic violence, but to seek help. Call the police special line “102” or the Government “hotline” at 1547, whose specialists provide advice and support to those affected.
