Since the beginning of the year, an increase in the number of fires has been recorded in Ukraine. Since January 1, 2024, there have already been 934 fires, while during this period in 2023 — 838, that is, an increase of 11.5%. In the past day alone, 153 fires were recorded, compared to 132 on the same day last year.

Since the beginning of this year, 56 people have died in fires, last year, during the same period, 41 people were victims of fires. The State Emergency Service reports that the increase in the number of fires is due to cooling and more active use of furnace heating, electric heaters, etc.

The State Emergency Service urges citizens to be warm, but carefully observe the rules of elementary fire safety, be sure to check the serviceability and safety of heating devices.

Also, in order to avoid the tragedy caused by a fire in the house, be extremely careful, take care of the proper fire condition of your own accommodation, namely:
● do not smoke in bed; ● monitor the condition and health of the mains; do not leave the TV on when leaving the premises irons, etc.; ● do not leave children unattended and do not allow them to play with matches;
● avoid overloading electrical networks, do not turn on high-power household electricity consumers at the same
time; ● use a stove

heating and heating devices, observing the rules of fire safety.

In the event of a fire or emergency, call the Rescue Service at 101 immediately.

Also, since the beginning of 2024, 9 people have died in the reservoirs, at the same time 9 people, including 1 child, were rescued by the units of the State Emergency Service. Last year, the water claimed the lives of 12 people during this period. Rescuers urge parents to carry out preventive work with children regarding the prohibition to walk independently near water bodies and go out on the ice.

Fishermen are also asked not to go to the ice, and if you still go out, then be sure to be in sight of other winter fishing enthusiasts who can help or call for help from rescuers in case of falling under the ice, have a rope with you so that it can be pulled out of the water and remember the basic rules of rescue on the ice.

It is possible to step on ice only if its thickness is at least 7 cm, preferably 10-15 cm, emphasizing that now, despite the frosty few days, the ice is not stable due to temperature changes.
