Border guard Andrei has been in the service for more than 20 years. All the time he worked in tandem with service dogs - he was a dog handler.

During the entire period of service on the border, he had to work with three four-legged assistants - he had a shepherd, a fox terrier, and now a yacht terrier nicknamed Chuck.

Among other breeds, the Chuck stands out for its energy, confidence, courage and intelligence. Only once in his life, Andrei had to part with his faithful companion - his four-legged companion. And it happened on February 24 last year. Then the unit, in which the border guard serves, left to perform the assigned tasks in Sumy region.

Andrei could not leave Chuck at home, he also could not take him with him because of his direct participation in hostilities during the occupation of Sumy region by the Russians. Therefore, the dog handler agreed with the locals so that for a certain time the dog would live with them. Chuck was very sad. His guardians said that he had been lying under the door the other day and was pining. After meeting with the host, after several months of separation, Chuck simply came to life - again he became cheerful, energetic and cheerful. Now Chuck is not one step away from Andrei, as if he is afraid that he will go to the service again without him.

“I have had a Yagd Terrier for seven years. As a child, I was very afraid of dogs, because once an aggressive dog attacked me and bit me. However, when I joined the border guards 24 years ago for military service, I realized that I want to connect my future life with the border, and even better — to become a dog trainer,” Andriy shares.

Chuck, who after studying the first time excelled in the exam, specializes in finding explosives and ammunition. Especially now, during the war, his mission is very important. However, says Andriy, twice in the last year the dog also acted on narcotic substances that he detected in passengers of vehicles during inspection at checkpoints.

Andrew has two sons. For him and his family, Chuck is not a colleague, but a family member. He is very loyal and loyal, will never betray, but will only support and cheer up. The younger son - Yaroslav - is 8 years old, Chuck unquestionably performs all his commands. Surely by some seventh sense, the dog knows that the most cherished dream of a boy is to become a border guard dog as a father. So already now Chuck is preparing Yaroslav to be the best of the best.
