Donates were appropriated under the guise of a charitable foundation: Kiev police exposed a fraudulent scheme
The criminal group included two people. In order to cover up their activities, the defendants used the markings of public organizations and sold cars that were intended for the Ukrainian military. Now they face up to seven years in prison.
Investigators of the Kiev police, together with employees of the Department for the Protection of Public Interest and the State of the National Police of Ukraine, uncovered a criminal scheme where men were assigned humanitarian assistance.
Law enforcers established that the men, in order to make a profit, sold vehicles that came to Ukraine as humanitarian aid from foreign states and were intended for the needs of the Armed Forces. In order to cover their activities, those involved used stickers of public organizations.
At present, all necessary investigative actions are ongoing, including searches of the places of residence of offenders in Kyiv, Kyiv region and Lviv.
On this fact, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 3 of Art. 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal use for the purpose of profit of humanitarian aid, charitable donations or gratuitous assistance committed by an organized group, either on a particularly large scale, or during a state of emergency or martial law). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to seven years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years and with confiscation of property.
