Border guards honored the memory of the brother of the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Igor Dashko
During the fighting with the invaders, Igor was seriously wounded. Then, as the enemy approached, he went on the radio for the last time in his life, he ended it with the words “Glory to Ukraine!”, after which he detonated himself with a grenade. This happened in Mariupol a year ago.
In the Garrison Church of St. App. Peter and Paul in Lviv during the memorial service were honored by representatives of the Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the leadership of the Western Regional Administration and colleagues. During the All-Ukrainian minute of silence, colleagues and staff of the Western Regional Administration also paid tribute to the soldier, because Igor devoted more than 10 years of his life to service on the western border.
Being surrounded by the enemy, the Hero died himself and destroyed the radio station so that it would not reach the invaders. His last words were “Glory to Ukraine!”.
By decree of the President of Ukraine Igor Dashko was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order “Golden Star” (posthumously). By order of the Head of the State Border Service of Ukraine, the officer was awarded the military title “colonel” (posthumously).
Streets renamed after him are now in Sambor, where Igor was born, as well as in Lviv and Khmelnytskyi.
Recall that Igor Dashko was born in Sambir, Lviv region. He graduated from the local Taras Shevchenko School No. 1 and devoted his whole life to military service in the State Border Service of Ukraine.
