Border guards of Ukraine and Slovakia held training on joint border patrol
The trainings were held on the territory of Slovakia — on the basis of the border control office “Vyšne Nemecke”. They were attended by more than 20 representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as well as border guards of Slovakia.
The events were held in two phases: September 26 and 27, and October 10 and 11. Employees of both countries, who are directly involved in serving as part of joint patrols, were invited to the events in order to improve their practical knowledge and theoretical skills.
Ukrainian and Slovak border guards worked out in practice separate issues on the organization and conduct of joint patrols and cooperation. In addition, during the theoretical training, the participants got acquainted with the legislation of the Schengen zone countries, the powers of law enforcement officers in the detention and use of special equipment and weapons, the rules for providing first aid.
It should be noted that such joint patrols are carried out both on the territory of Ukraine and on the territory of the Slovak Republic in order to effectively combat the illegal crossing of the Ukrainian-Slovak state border outside the checkpoints by persons, vehicles, illegal movement of goods, as well as the exchange of experience between border guards of both countries. At the same time, only border guards of the country whose territory is patrolled are on duty with weapons and special means.
It should be noted that with the beginning of the full-scale attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine, this practice was suspended. However, joint patrols with Slovak counterparts will soon be resumed.
Recall that the practice of joint patrols of the Ukrainian-Slovak border was introduced back in 2013 within the framework of the Agreement between the Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Slovak Republic on joint patrolling of the Ukrainian-Slovak state border.
